Day 32 - August 9, 2012

This  is not good news but it could be worse.  The last round of chemo failed to take the leukemia cells down to the necessary 5%.  First time was 20% and this time 15%.  We will have more information to work with tomorrow when we discuss the situation with Dr. Polluck. my hemo doc. Polluck is a forward thinking young man who may have something else plus more infor on the above.  Dr. House? At this point, as we understand it, there are 3 options.

1.  Wait 7 days and do another biopsy to see if chem might still be working on killing leukemia.

2.  Do another chemo round with a different chemical.

3.  Let cells build up for a while and do maintenance to keep %. in range.

4.  Go home and drink ;)

love you. I am confident in your doc pollack. Will be eager to hear the options and plan how he sees it. Numbers are moving in the right direction and you are strong.

  2. I was in the AO today and don't remember # 4 being mentioned...oh...wait, I suggested that!

BS! As an MBA I know what has happened: Asheville Docs are not used to the chemistry of an Army Paratrooper and do not recognize that that chemo needs a little longer to counter the testosterone, gin, and scotch. Chemo is no match for these!

Therefore, as an MBA (and also a Paratrooper, albeit now a Heavy Drop) vote for #1 along with an inpatient #4. Airborne! Hooah! See you in Atlanta. Bro J (MBA)

  3. I'm fairly certain Doc Pollack needs to adjust the chemo to take into account the natural chemical resistance that your cells (cancerous and otherwise) have achieved through years of gin de-sensitization. Some might call it partying, I tend to think of it as building up your immune system! In fact, maybe a bit of gin with the chemo may trick the cancerous cells into thinking it is just a regular Saturday night at the Wheeless' and then BLAM, sneak attack with the chemo to knock 'em out. I may be wrong, but even if I am, at least you get a doc prescribing you gin, and you can't beat that for bedside manner. All the best Doug! The Bhalla's love you and look forward to seeing you in a few months (with a glass of gin...you see the theme here).

You've been so strong so far. Know you can handle whatever is next. So proud of your brave and positive attitude. You're my role model! Love you!

  5. This isn't the best news, Doug, but it's just a temporary setback in the grand scheme of fighting this crap. You have been very strong so far. Perhaps Dr. pollack will have a new game plan andgetthat count down in the under 5% range.
